“He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall propser.” Psalm 1:3
Sometimes i can be a bad apple, sometimes a real lemon. On a good day you might say i am peachy keen. Good or bad i am bearing fruit of some kind. If i am to be known by my “fruitiness” let it be the fruits of the Spirit that they see in me. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.” Galatians 5:22

“Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong.” 1 Corithians 16:13 Beside the river behind my house stands a tree whose roots run deep into the waters that flow there. For years it has stood through many a storm, buffeted by winds and waters that flood. The tests of time and the elements have proven over and over the strength of this tree whose roots run so deep into the river that flows. How i pray that i could be more like this tree. Beside the streams of Living Water i want to stand with roots that drink deeply of the Flow. When the storms of life do come i will stand firm because my faith is in YOU. YOU will be my strength and my courage will come from YOU alone. Lord, make me a tree of righteousness that others might see and come to the River too!

“He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.” Psalm 23:3
Where this path will lead i do not know but as long as You guide me i know where it will lead. To the City where the streets are made of gold and i will finally see Your face. Until then i will seek Your hand and in Your presence find the strength to walk the path ahead.

The other day friend of mine shared the lyrics of a song she loved as a child growing up in the 70’s. The song was written and performed by an obscure singer by the name Mike Johnson. This song was the title track of the only album he released. I believe the album came out in 1970 or 71 and sadly, it seems, can no longer be found. My friend hopes to find the one she listened to as a little girl. Though i myself have never heard the song, the words alone were enough to move me to tears. Whether you are an artist or not, i believe you can appreciate the beauty and the emotion of this work. Read it for yourself and see: The Artist
The Artist paints a landscape,
filled with trees and mountains,
colors of joy all around.
Sheep and deer and lions living together,
two children playing on the ground.
The vandal hammers in,
crosses out the picture,
blood red paint dripping down;
he hands the children brushes
and he calls the paint wisdom,
they spread the colors all around.
Blood and paint mingle,
the colors run together;
you can’t tell art from happenstance.
The children are crying and they know they must be dying –
who will give them another chance?
The Artist paints a city,
scenery’s still pretty,
children and babies play;
the painting has been marred
and the edges have been charred,
but there’s beauty in youth anyway.
The vandal hammers in,
crosses out the picture,
blood red paint dripping down;
he hands the children brushes
and he calls the paint wisdom,
they spread the colors all around.
Blood and paint mingle,
the colors run together;
you can’t tell art from happenstance.
The children are crying and they know they must be dying –
who will give them another chance?
The Artist paints a manger,
the birth of a baby,
and puts his brushes away;
he steps into the picture
and he touches his creations
and he lives with them day by day.
A hillside has been painted
where a cross is standing
on which the Artist dies;
the vandal is leering
from behind the jeering
of a thousand painted eyes.
To the horror of the vandal,
the Artist is standing,
brushes and palette in his hand;
he erases the vandal
and all who believe him –
paints the beauty of a thousand lands.
He touches the children,
every face is smiling,
then he steps inside,
with the kiss of his lips and the touch of his breath
the children in the painting come alive!
The Artist paints a landscape,
filled with trees and mountains,
colors of joy all around.
Sheep and deer and lions living together,
children are playing on the ground.
He touches the children,
every face is smiling,
then he steps inside;
with the kiss of his lips
and the touch of his breath,
the children in the painting come alive.
God Reflected in the Waters

“And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.” Genesis 1:2 Water heals, refreshes and brings life. Water can also destroy. Water reflects…look into the water and see God’s creation mirrored upon the surface. Look deeper and you will see a small reflection of God himself-His power to heal, refresh and to give life. There is also the great mystery of God which no man can understand and when God destroys it is not always for us to know why but to trust in His unfailing love and His perfect plan. He is working all things for the good of those who love Him(Romans 8:28). Thank You, Father for water and the life giving lessons it brings.

‘It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22&23 A dear friend shared this Bible verse this morning. As soon as i read it i knew why God led me to these beatiful morning glories just hours before. I did not want to keep this blessing to myself, so i am sharing it with you, my friends. The color of the flowers reminds me of another Scripture that i will share in closing: “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.” Isaiah 1:18 Have a blessed day!!

“Mama, did you always want to be an artist?”, Rachel asked me as i finished a sketch i had been working on for the last hour. “Yes, for as long as i can remember, i have wanted to be an artist.”, was my reply. “Well, my friends think it is neat that you are an artist.”. “You tell them i am an artist?” “Yes, i do and they want to see some of your artwork.” Now i am speechless. It is true, i have always wanted to be an artist but never really considered myself one. The only drawings my children have ever seen are the ones i saved from growing up. Just enough to fill up one photo album. There’s no telling how much more i actually did but threw away because it was not good enough for my “inner critic”. To call myself an artist when others were so much better than i would be a joke. Sometimes i draw things to be used in our homeschooling lessons and the kids go on like i am Picasso. Still i just could not see myself as an artist! Then i found “The Creative Call” by Janice Elsheimer. This book is set up to used individually or as a Bible study. Since the last couple of weeks have been busy and i just found a new friend and fellow artist who is going to join me in the study after she acquires the book, i have only read a few pages-enough to say i am starting to believe i am an artisit! The other neat thing is that the creative talent God gave me is not limited to drawing and painting alone. While i would love to tell everyone more about this book and how God is opening my eyes to the creative work He is working in me, i will have to save it for later. Hey, i am only just beginning to delve in here. I cannot wait to see where God takes me with this creative flow! So i hope you all will bear with me and come back as i share more and more in the coming days,weeks and months. By the way, that sketch i was working on is an idea i had for a painting i will be doing for my Mother-in-law who is looking for something “different” for her bathroom wall. Here i am sharing it with you. I call it “Sunburst”. The next step is to draw it on a bigger scale and paint it with watercolor.
And Rachel, thanks for believing in your Mama! I love you.

My Feet on a Rock

“He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.” Psalm 40:2 Inspiration happens in the most unexpected places at the most unexpected moments. God never ceases to amaze! While out taking pictures with the children, i had found something interesting on the creek rock that i thought would make a good picture but i ended up instead getting a picture of Rachel’s feet. At first i was disappointed but upon closer observation, God brought Psalm 40:2 to mind. Wow!! God does have a way of getting His point across. And sometimes what seems to be disappointment may actually be a blessing in disguise!
